PINCER

PINCER is a pharmacist-led IT intervention shown to reduce clinically important errors in general practice prescribing by up to 50%. It uses software to search GP practice computer systems to identify at-risk patients who are being prescribed drugs commonly associated with medication errors so that actions can be taken to reduce the risk.

This is a national the Health Innovation Network adoption and spread initiative.

The PINCER intervention is led by primary care pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. It involves searching GP clinical systems using computerised prescribing safety indicators to identify patients at risk from their medications and then acting to correct the problem.
