Worthwhile Waiting

Worthwhile Waiting offers a new care pathway for orthopedics patients (hip / knee) to work with their health coach or social prescriber to identify appropriate physical and mental wellbeing support services during the period they are waiting for surgical procedures. Health Innovation East is funding an evaluation to understand how the resource affects patient outcomes.

We are supporting Worthwhile Waiting, which enables some patients in Cambridgeshire to work with their health coach or social prescriber to identify appropriate physical and mental wellbeing support services during the period they are waiting for surgical procedures.

Worthwhile Waiting is an innovative programme which aims to transform the post-referral, pre-appointment period from one in which patients are passively waiting to one where they are actively preparing for specialist intervention.

Initially focusing on patients with hip and knee pain, the aspiration is to expand the service to other conditions once the approach has been tested. Health Innovation East is funding an evaluation to understand how the resource affects patient outcomes which will be available in September 2022.
