Following a successful bid from a collaboration of the region’s universities, providers of health and social care services and Health Innovation East communities with high levels of deprivation and need are set to benefit from £9m government funding to help tackle their biggest mental and physical health challenges across the life course.
The newly-formed NIHR ARC East of England will use the grant to join up the region’s universities, leading innovators and local authorities to engage and involve under-represented communities in health and social care research and develop community-led approaches to solve problems. Focussed on communities in Great Yarmouth and Waveney, Peterborough and Fenland, Stevenage and Thurrock this will truly be a collaborative approach to help people who are struggling financially to get the care they need.
This grant will be pivotal in ensuring everyone in our community benefits from our world leading research community, creating better health outcomes and more prosperity. We believe that our region’s citizens, universities, health services and industry will achieve more working together than they will in isolation and are delighted to have helped secure this funding to ensure research is conducted in the areas that matter the most to those living in the most economically deprived parts of our region. We also look forward to helping the ARC learn what’s working as they work to deliver improved care so that we can apply evidence at scale across our community and beyond.
