Health Innovation East is inviting entrepreneurs, innovators, and health and care professionals to apply for a programme designed to accelerate the development of digital health solutions. Delivered in partnership with Cogniss, a no-code platform that enables the creation of patient-facing apps without coding, the initiative supports participants to design, build, and scale impactful digital products.

The programme aims to empower individuals without technical expertise to develop sophisticated, compliant health applications. Each year, up to 10 selected innovators receive funding and support to turn their ideas into reality.

Cogniss provides a comprehensive digital health ecosystem that makes it faster and more cost-effective to build patient- and consumer-facing apps, removing the need for expensive external developers. In the hands of health and care experts the ecosystem creates frontline solutions and can help commercialise digital products – in doing so Cogniss helps drive the democratisation of digital health.

Participants will use the Cogniss no-code platform to rapidly develop and deploy their applications. At the core of the ecosystem is an advanced app editor featuring more than 80 modular components, allowing users to build apps in a flexible, intuitive way.

The platform also includes an ‘innovation sandbox’, where ideas can be safely tested and refined prior to launch. In addition, Cogniss helps streamline regulatory requirements by automating key elements of compliance with frameworks such as the NHS Digital Technology Assessment Criteria (DTAC), making it easier to bring products to market. Innovators also benefit from support aligned to the Digital Technology Assessment Criteria (DTAC), including free access to our Self-Cert DTAC tool.

Health Innovation East  believes that great ideas only make a difference for our health when they are put into practice. Through its partnership with Cogniss, the programme helps innovators overcome common barriers such as development costs, regulatory complexity, and access to resources – supporting the adoption and scaling of digital solutions across the NHS and beyond.

The programme begins with a six-month development phase, during which participants design and build their digital health app with expert guidance and support. Those who successfully complete the six-month development phase will have an additional four month extension to have the opportunity to test solutions in real-world settings, generate user insights, and build the evidence needed to accelerate adoption.
