Researchers, clinicians, industry partners and policymakers are invited to attend Health Data for Discovery, a flagship event marking the launch of the Eastern England Secure Data Environment (SDE) and a major milestone for data-driven health research and innovation in the region.

Date: Monday 23 March 2026
Time: 11:30am–5:30pm (followed by an evening reception)
Venue: Babraham Research Campus, Babraham Hall House, Cambridge, CB22 3AT

The launch follows the merger of the East Midlands SDE and East of England SDE, which from 1 February 2026 are operating as a single Eastern England SDE under common governance and operating arrangements.

This consolidation strengthens regional capability and creates the largest geographic footprint of any Secure Data Environment in England, serving a population of almost 12 million people. The unified SDE provides a secure infrastructure to connect previously fragmented NHS health data, creating a trusted route for research and innovation that benefits patients and populations.

Designed with involvement from patients and public representatives, the SDE supports responsible and trustworthy use of NHS data. Its architecture enables the discovery and connection of patient data across organisations, alongside the tools and secure environment needed for analysis and collaboration.

The launch event will showcase the data, tools and services available through the SDE, including demonstrations of the end-to-end research process and examples of studies already underway. It will also provide opportunities to connect with partners across the region and learn how the SDE can support new research collaborations.
