“AI has the potential to transform the delivery of healthcare in the NHS” – The Topol Review, 2019
The series of free interactive roadshow events brought together the NHS workforce with academics, industry experts and regional business leaders across four sustainability and transformation partnership (STP) geographies: Norfolk and Waveney, Mid and South Essex, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough; and Suffolk and North East Essex.
Attendance was open to anyone working in the NHS with an interest in future technologies, regardless of their role, to help them understand the rapidly changing technological landscape, how STPs could leverage technology and build upon the rich wealth of world-leading innovators on the frontiers of healthcare.
The events were part of the broader East of England System Transformation Organisational Development Programme, delivered in partnership with Health Education England and the East of England Leadership Academy.
Delegates heard from Peter Bannister, Dr Peter Bannister, Chair of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Healthcare Executive, who spoke about the potential for artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning. He covered how AI could help with operational efficiency and eventually enable preventative, personalised treatment at scale, integrating social care and mental health alongside diagnostic or interventional applications.
