The Digital Technology Assessment Criteria (DTAC) is an essential compliance framework, created by the NHS, for digital products in the health and care system.

DTAC is a series of questions that can be completed by the product owner – it is ‘self-certified’ – and then assessed by NHS organisations for compliance. DTAC incorporates questions about the product, intended purpose, value proposition, clinical safety, security, data handling and interoperability.

Responses to the DTAC assessment can also be independently verified by third-party agencies which specialises in compliance. The cost of these assessments which can often run into thousands of pounds.
